Landscape day

UNITY – The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will host a Volunteer Landscaping Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at its Common Ground Education Center.

Projects will include transplanting perennials, weeding, adding compost and mulching perennial beds and expanding mulch rings around trees in the south orchard, using newpaper/cardboard as a weed suppressor.

Volunteers should bring a lunch and containers to take home a perennial or two, if they’d like.

Teen training

SOUTH PORTLAND – Dale Carnegie Training of Maine announces training programs for teenagers.

Dale Carnegie’s Gener-ation.Next is a training program for teens ages 13 to 18. The interactive sessions are a combination of learning and practical exercises that emphasize skill building in communication, leadership, confidence, stress management and “people skills.”

Training will be offered at the South Portland training center on July 26, 27 and 28. and on July 19, 20 and 21.

Barn building

UNITY – The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will host a pole barn construction workshop on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25, at its Common Ground Education Center. The workshop will be a weekend volunteer work party.

Lunch. equipment and tools will be provided, but volunteers wishing to bring their own tools are welcome to do so. Carpentry and construction skills are not required.

The barn will be used as a shelter for small livestock, and will house rabbits and rabbit demonstrations during the Common Ground Country Fair.

Work will start at 9 a.m. each day. Participants are welcome to camp out overnight. To sign up for the free workshop, call MOFGA at 568-4142.
