WINDSOR – State police say a teacher at Erskine Academy was killed Thursday afternoon in a two vehicle crash on Route 17 in Windsor.
Troopers said Donald Ridgeway, 64, of Union was killed instantly. His 44-year-old wife, Joan, was undergoing emergency surgery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
The driver of the other vehicle, 28-year-old Angela Dehetre of Windsor, was also injured and also taken to the Lewiston hospital.
Trooper Patrick Munzing said the crash took place about 4 p.m. in heavy rain on a bridge over the West Branch of the Sheepscot River. One of the vehicles likely hydroplaned on the wet pavement, and the two vehicles collided nearly head-on, he said.
A team of state troopers responded to the scene. The road was closed until 8 p.m. The injured women were taken to the Lewiston hospital by the Augusta Fire Department and Delta ambulances.
Also responding to the crash site were firefighters from Windsor, Jefferson and Chelsea.
Munzing said the Ridgeways were in a Toyota Corolla and Dehetre was driving a Dodge Durango SUV.
