AUGUSTA – Enterprise Trenchless Technologies Inc. has been recognized for construction excellence with a 2006 Build Maine Award from Associated Constructors of Maine Inc. The Lisbon Falls-based specialty contractor was honored in the competition’s Municipal/Utility category for its innovative approach to replacing the town of Ogunquit’s sewer main.

The Ogunquit Sewer District last year was faced with replacing the original sewer line that served as the major mainline cross-country system for the town. Problem was, several multi-million-dollar structures had been built atop the 100-year-old sewer line that was experiencing full capacity. The line’s location left few economical options, as traditional open trenching away from the shoreline, through the downtown business district, and back to the shore would’ve taken months to complete and crippled local commerce. To complete the project ETTI employed horizontal directional drilling, a process that causes so little disruption it often goes unnoticed by the public.

At a cost of just $120,000, the HDD process saved the town of Ogunquit more than $1 million in construction costs. Chartered in 1951, Associated Constructors of Maine is a state chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and represents the interests of 275 construction firms and related businesses throughout Maine.
