LEWISTON – Peter Lewis broke on Chris Kuehl’s pitch and stole home with two outs in the fifth inning for the go-ahead run to lift St. Dom’s to an 8-5 victory over Traip in the Western Class C baseball quarterfinals on Friday.
With the score tied 5-5, Lewis reached on a two-out bunt single, stole second and advanced to third on a balk.
After the team traded three runs in the first inning, the Saints (15-2) took a 5-3 lead in the third on an RBI triple by Brady Blackman and a fielder’s choice.
Traip fought back, but Blackman shut the door in the fifth when he relieved Tom Edgecomb with runners on second and third and no outs. Blackman (5-0) struck out the next three batters to end the threat.
Lewis and Andy Allen had two hits apiece for the Saints.
Oak Hill 13, Poland 2
POLAND – Josh Jillson highlighted a six-run fourth inning with an RBI single as No. 7 Oak Hill beat second-seeded Poland 13-2 in a Western Class B quarterfinal baseball game Friday.
Brian Bisson added a two-run double among his three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Wally Rines contributed a pair of hits and three RBIs for the Raiders (13-5). Mike Eaton (3-4) went all five innings, allowing just four hits.
Brent Cary had a double for Poland (12-5). Jason Pelletier suffered the loss.
Rangeley 7, Buckfield 5
BUCKFIELD – Rangeley capitalized on seven Buckfield errors and Ryan Gordon rapped out four hits as the No. 3 Lakers upended the No. 2 Bucks 7-5 in a Western D baseball semifinals Friday.
After a Dan Danforth two-run double down the right-field line gave the Bucks (14-3) a 5-4 lead in the fifth, the Lakers came back with two runs in the sixth. An RBI double by winning pitcher Luke Hammond off reliever Danforth (4-1) tied the score, and David Raymond followed with a run-scoring single. Gordon tacked on an RBI single in the seventh for insurance.
Matt Lowell, Chris Reuter and Josh Emery had two hits apiece for the Bucks. Raymond had two hits for the Lakers (10-5).
