FARMINGTON – As of late Tuesday night, incumbent Meldon Gilmore was leading Lee Ireland in the primary race for the Republican nomination for a District 3 county commissioner’s seat.

Gilmore has held the position for years and led in six of the eight towns reporting. But Ireland, a popular Industry selectman, led by 63 votes in Industry and by 10 in Weld.

Gilmore of Kingfield led by a large margin in his hometown and in Strong, Avon and Freeman Township. In Kingfield, voters backed Gilmore 73-16; in Strong, he led Ireland 93- 48, in Avon, 29-6, and in Freeman Township 18-2.

In the other District 3 towns that had reported by 10:30 p.m., Gilmore led Ireland by a smaller margin. In Eustis, he led 31-26, in Coplin Plantation Gilmore led 9-3, in Dallas Plantation he led 25-20, and in Carrabassett Valley he led 23-13.
