FARMINGTON – An unofficial tally on the SAD 9 budget referendum shows all 13 questions that dealt with the budget have passed, said district business manager Kristine Pottle.

The budget for the 2006-07 school year totals $22,984,440, a 5 percent increase from the 2005-06 school year. But with an increase in funds from the state, towns will actually have to raise less through taxes. The nine municipalities within the district will have to raise a total of $6,364,318.

Of the 13 questions on the referendum, number 7 was the most closely contested. It simply read, “Shall the district appropriate $1,783,104 for Leadership?”

“Leadership is school board costs, district wide administration and school administration,” Pottle said. She did not know why the vote on that item was closer than the others.

Farmington, Wilton and Temple passed all 13 questions that dealt with the budget, and New Vineyard rejected them all. Industry voted no on all but questions 11, 12 and 13. Chesterville passed all questions except No. 7 and No. 10, which would allow the district to appropriate $1,064,353 for “other commitments including debt service.” And New Sharon approved all but question 7.

The town clerks of Vienna and Weld were unavailable to give referendum results.
