AUBURN – The city on Monday night gave local Marine Lt. Col. Todd Desgrosseilliers two standing ovations and his own day.

Mayor Normand Guay honored Desgrosseilliers at Monday night’s City Council meeting, naming June 20, 2006, Todd Desgrosseilliers Day.

Desgrosseillier, a 1981 Edward Little graduate serving with the Marines in Iraq, is currently home on leave.

He was awarded the Silver Star in February for bravery and heroism on the battlefield, especially for actions during two attacks in 2004.

He weathered grenades and gunfire and was wounded twice, as risking his life to shield his men, according to his commendations.

Councilors and citizens applauded him twice during the meeting.

Desgrosseillers thanked the city, both for honoring him and the Marines.

“They are your sons and daughters, and they are great people,” he said.
