GREENWOOD – Police charged a Greenwood man last weekend with threatening another man with a chain saw, a state trooper said.

Aristotelis S. Tsimis, 21, took a chain saw from his truck, chased a man with it and hit him on the side with the blade, which was not running, Trooper Daniel Hansen said Monday.

The victim, who was not identified, was scratched but not go to the hospital, Hansen said.

On Saturday, Tsimis visited the family home of a person who had two days earlier filed for a protection order against him. When Tsimis got to the Greenwood residence around 2:20 a.m., a family member tried to remove Tsimis from the property and the two got into a fight.

Then Tsimis grabbed the chain saw and chased the man.

When Hansen arrived, he ordered Tsimis to put his hands on the vehicle, but instead Tsimis attempted to get into his truck.

“He refused; he was uncooperative,” Hansen said. “He had to be restrained and taken into custody.”

Tsimis was charged with failure to submit to arrest, as well as aggravated assault and violation of a protection from abuse order. He was later charged with criminal threatening with a weapon, Hansen said.

Tsimis posted a $500 cash bail Monday afternoon, according to a jail official.
