AUBURN – A Third Street man was arrested on drug trafficking and other charges Monday after a police raid on his home.

Geary M. Bissonette, 28, was charged with aggravated drug trafficking and violating terms of probation after the 9 p.m. raid.

Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Supervisor Gerry Baril said agents and a probation officer went to Bissonette’s home to conduct a random search and to test Bissonette for drugs. Bissonette is required to submit to such tests as conditions of his probation after release from the Department of Corrections less than six months ago.

Bissonette had been arrested by drug agents in 2001 and charged with aggravated trafficking in cocaine and marijuana in a sting operation, Baril said. In March 2003, he was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but four suspended.

Baril said agents Monday found Bissonette with $2,928 in his pockets and a plastic sandwich bag containing more than five grams of cocaine. In his bedroom, they uncovered a cardboard box of men’s cologne that contained a bag with more than one-half pound of cocaine, the supervisor said.

Inside a shoe box in the closet, another plastic bag with more than a quarter ounce of cocaine was found, Baril said. A digital scale, drug ledgers and a plastic gun case containing $15,500 cash, suspected to be proceeds from the unlawful sale of cocaine, were also found.

Bissonette was arrested Monday night on a charge of violating conditions of probation by possessing illegal drugs and held at the Androscoggin County jail.

On Tuesday, agents charged him with aggravated trafficking in cocaine. The estimated street value of the cocaine, if sold for the going rate of $100 per gram, is well over $20,000, Baril said.

Bissonette remained at the Androscoggin County Jail on Tuesday night.
