RANGELEY – Naturalist Warren Balgooyen will present “A Nature Walk” from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at Orgonon, Dodge Pond Road. Warren Balgooyen, naturalist, has been a regular presenter at the Sunday nature programs.

Those attending should dress appropriately for a moderate hike and the weather. Bring insect repellent, water and a pad/pencil for taking notes. Walkers will meet at the outdoor classroom on the Orgonon property. Drive up to the Wilhelm Reich Museum; take the path to the left from the parking lot labeled “Tomb.”

Balgooyen is a Colby College graduate with a degree in biology. He was employed at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1963 to 1983. In 1983 Balgooyen became a freelance naturalist and landscaper in Maine.

He is a board member of several conservation and wildlife groups. He runs a small nursery at his home in Norridgewock and writes a nature column for “The Town Line,” a weekly published in South China. He also contributes to the Birdwatchers Digest.

Visitors are encouraged to visit the observatory building, which details the life and work of physician/scientist Wilhelm Reich, whose interest in the natural environment led to the introduction of the natural science program in 1989.

The observatory is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday in July and August, and in September from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The adult admission fee is $6; children 12 and under are free. All the Sunday nature programs are free of charge.

The natural science program is funded by individual donors and a grant from the Wing Benjamin Trust.
