LEWISTON – BT Pallet compiled a sparkling 8-1 record in emerging from the losers’ bracket to take top honors in last weekend’s Andy Valley Softball Umpires Association Memorial Tournament.

Pallet started with a 14-2 win over Ruby Tuesday, but lost Saturday morning to College Carry Out, 12-11. The Lewiston team had to win 7 games in a row to capture the crown. It began with a 23-0 victory over Gendron’s, followed by wins over Lamerous, 13-10; Ducharme, 19-1; Nitro Fitness; and Get Etched, 8-5.

That put Pallet in the finals, needing 2 wins asgainst College Carry Out. Pallet prevailed 11-7 in the first contest. In the deciding game, Carry Out struck for 5 runs in the first inning. Later, trailing 6-1, Pallet tied it with 2 in the second and 3 in the third. After Carry Out took a 7-6 lead in the fourth and added 2 more in the sixth, Pallet was on the edge of defeat. But a 7 run explosion in the sixth provided them with the championship.

Members of the championship team are: Ron Tierney, Ken Stevens, Heath Crocker, Bob Martin, Tim Holbrook, Dave Wagg, Jamie King, Jason Parkin, Jesse St. Laurent, Ed Morrisette, Mike Gagne.

“D” tourney on tap

AUBURN – The Maine ASA District Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will take place with 15 teams Saturday and Sunday on Auburn diamonds.

Any team finishing with a 2-2 record or better will advance to the state tourney set for July 14-16 in Lewiston-Auburn.

The tourney will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, and conclude on Sunday with the championship game at 10:30 a.m. at Pettengill. Other fields to be utilized are Lakeview-1 and Lakeview-2.

Following is Saturday’s opening schedule: 8 a.m.: Carlton Club vs Allaire Drywall, Lake-1; Major Automotive vs Hart Transportation, Lake-2; Fast Breaks vs Reggie’s Sales, Pett. 9:15: Le National Club vs Blue Goose/LASA, Pett.; Delisle Construction vs Ducharme Masonry, Lake-1; Melanson/Webber vs Mockler Construction, Lake-2. 10:30: Varsity Lettering vs winner Carlton-Allaire, Lake-2; Motor Home Center vs Gendron’s Auto Repair, Lake-1.

A-K Girls League

TURNER – The Turner Patriots picked up 2 wins over the Greene Eagles in recent action in the A-K Girls Softball League. Turner outslugged the Eagles 18-17 as Drew Dillingham swung the big stick with 2 doubles and a single. Also contributing key hits were Kelly and Casey Pomerleau. Rebecca Rancourt was the winning pitcher, with Ashley Hinkley nailing down another save. Tori Zupanzik led the Eagles with 3 hits. . . The Patriots (4-0) beat the Eagles again, 19-12, as Dillingham collected 3 more safeties. Krystina Rowe was also a repeat hitter. Mariah Treadwell and Karli Soracco played solid defense. Hinkley was the winning hurler. Zupanzik and Kristen Anderson had multiple hits for Greene.

Auburn Player’s League

AUBURN – Chris Williams socked 2 homers and drove in 4 runs to lead Major Automotive to an 8-5 win over Motor Home Wednesday.
