NEW VINEYARD – Fire destroyed Pam West’s on Route 234 home and killed one of her two dogs Monday.
West was working at her Farmington Chocolate Shop when the fire started, fire Chief Douglas Churchill said, as he stood, drenched, on the road in front of the smoldering home.
“We got the call around 11:30 a.m.,” he said. Someone who passed by the house saw flames and dialed 911, he said.
West’s home was engulfed in flames by the time his department arrived. Firefighters were on the scene until nearly 4:30 p.m., Churchill said.
“It was a total loss,” Churchill said of the home. One of West’s two dogs was outside when firefighters arrived, but the other was apparently killed.
West is “taking it as you might expect,” he said.
She was expected to spend Monday night at her son’s house, he added.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Churchill said.
