NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) – Brandon Moss and Luis Jimenez each had two hits and drove in two runs Tuesday to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 7-3 Eastern League win over the New Britain Rock Cats.
Moss, who has eight doubles and 14 RBIs against New Britain this season, had a run-scoring double in the Sea Dogs’ three-run third inning against Rock Cats starter Kevin Slowey (0-1). He added an RBI single in the seventh to give the Sea Dogs (45-28) a 6-2 lead.
Jimenez, who played for the Rock Cats last year, blasted his ninth homer of the season in the second inning, scoring Jeremy West (double) in front of him. West also had two hits and scored twice.
Chris Smith (9-3) tied teammate Kason Gabbard atop the league in wins, allowing a run on five hits in six innings.
Denard Span, Danny Matienzo and Jose Morales had two hits each for the Rock Cats (31-42), who have dropped 16 of 22 since reaching .500 on June 4.
Slowey yielded six runs (four earned) on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in his Double-A debut.
