AUBURN – A patrol officer lost control of his cruiser over the weekend and crashed it into a tree.
Adam Martin, 26, wasn’t injured in the crash, police reports said. Damage to the cruiser was estimated at $7,500.
Martin responded to a call about a loud party and possible fighting shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.
He switched on his blue lights and turned left onto Minot Avenue from Court Street. As he did, the 2006 Ford he was driving started to skid. He turned the steering wheel away from the skid and the cruiser spun 180 degrees, he wrote in a report.
The driver’s side of the car hit the curb and slammed into a tree outside the police department. He called dispatch and summoned his supervisor. Two Auburn Police lieutenants and an officer from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department met him at the scene.
The cruiser was towed.
