LEWISTON – The mother of a girl ejected from a local movie theater is suing, claiming her daughter suffered serious injuries.

The suit, on file at Androscoggin County Superior Court, says Kristin Roy and her mother, Lisa, were at Flagship Cinemas at 9 p.m. Jan. 24, 2004, when employees removed Roy from the theater.

She spent about 45 minutes standing outside the theater in subzero temperatures, not having dressed for the cold, the suit says. She wasn’t able to warm herself in her mother’s car because her mother, who was still in the theater, had the keys. Theater workers refused to let the girl back into the building.

The suit doesn’t state the girl’s age. It only says she is a minor under 18 years old.

Roy suffered “severe injuries” as well as emotional distress as a result of the incident, according to the complaint. She will suffer “permanent impairment” and will have to pay medical bills in an effort to heal her injuries. Moreover, she won’t be able to earn as much as she could have because of the incident, the suit says.

During her eviction, Roy was touched in “an offensive and insulting manner,” the suit says.

Neither Lisa Roy nor her lawyer, Robert Laskoff of Lewiston, would comment on the suit.

Harry Center, a lawyer for Lewiston Theatre Inc. said his client denies any liability. He also said he believes the injuries were “minor.”
