MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A 4-year-old girl found wandering along a busy street early Thursday was reunited with her mother, who did not know the girl had gotten out of the house.

Police found the girl around 5:45 a.m. at a busy intersection and drove her around the neighborhood hoping she would recognize her home. Eventually, they located the mother after someone called with a tip on who the youngster might have been.

Sgt. Mark Fowke said the child was being cared for by someone other than her mother when she climbed onto something, unlocked a door and wandered away. The house was a couple of blocks from where the youngster was found.

He said the caretaker did not notice the child was missing, thinking the little girl and a sibling were still asleep.

Mother and child were reunited around 9:30. State child services officials are investigating.
