WILTON – Western Maine Community Action has helped countless people in Franklin, Androscoggin and Oxford counties, and now it is hoping that area people will help the organization by taking part in its upcoming events.
WMCA has organized a benefit raffle, the proceeds of which will help with its community service programs such as food pantries, Operation Santa Claus and its gardening programs. Prizes include a $100 gasoline card, 16-inch boy’s bike with training wheels, three-wheel scooter, home stereo and a 1:6 scale radio-control Herbie car.
The drawing will take place Aug. 5 during WMCA’s two-day Yard Sale, Food, Fun and Giveaway event, which coincides with the Wilton Blueberry Festival.
“Stop by for lunch,” said Johnnie Buchanan, community services program manager. “We’ll have clowns and fun festivities.”
Among items at the yard sale will be new Bass shoes. Buchanan is still looking for any donations, except clothing, to put in the yard sale.
Along with the raffle giveaways, WMCA will give someone a 1993 Ford Taurus station wagon that was given to WMCA by an anonymous donor who wanted the car to go to someone who could use it. Anyone who feels they deserve the car can fill out an application. They must meet income eligibility, be 18 or older and must write a statement of why they think they should have the car. Buchanan said those with a history of community involvement and good citizenship could have their name included in the drawing five times, but everyone is allowed to fill out one application only.
To receive an application or to make a donation, contact Buchanan at 645-3764, ext. 5258. Raffle tickets, which cost $1 each, are also available through Buchanan, at the WMCA display on Friday, July 28, at Wal-Mart in Farmington or at the festival Aug. 4-5.
