LEWISTON – A 90-year-old man driving on Sabattus Street failed to see a red light and struck a car Sunday afternoon.
Armand Boucher of 86 Hackett St. in Auburn was traveling east on Sabattus Street when his vehicle struck the left front side of a vehicle driven by Sandra Thibault, 55, of 2161 Lisbon St., Lewiston, according to the Lewiston Police Department accident report. Thibault was turning left from Fairlawn Avenue onto Sabattus Street when her car was hit.
Amy Lemieux, a witness to the accident, said in a statement to police that Boucher had a red light.
Boucher “did have a red light, which he said he did not see,” the police report stated.
Damage to Boucher’s 1994 Pontiac Sunfire was estimated at $10,000. It was towed by Danny’s Auto Service, according to the report. Damage to Thibault’s 2000 Mercury was estimated at $4,000. The report stated that her vehicle was towed by Stan Pelletier Towing.
Patrol officer Eugene Kavanagh said Boucher was bleeding from the head.
Thibault complained of pain in her head after the accident, according to the accident report.
Both drivers were taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center on Sunday afternoon, treated and released, nursing supervisor Anita Lalonde said.
