PORTLAND (AP) – Randy Ruiz and Bronson Sardinha belted two-run homers as the Trenton Thunder trounced the Portland Sea Dogs 15-2 Monday in the Eastern League. The Thunder’s 21 hits tied a franchise record.

Trenton starter Philip Hughes struck out nine over 4 2/3 innings and relievers J. Brent Cox and Gerardo Casadiego finished the game.

Doubles by Gabe Lopez, Eric Duncan and Kevin Howard were the key hits as the Thunder (45-38) scored eight times in the second inning. After Ruiz’s homer made it 10-0 in the third, Sardinha’s shot sparked Trenton’s three-run sixth and RBI singles by Howard and Omir Santos extended the lead to 15-0 in the eighth.

After going scoreless through eight innings, the Sea Dogs (48-31) tallied two runs in the ninth, keyed by Chad Spann’s RBI double.
