NORWICH, Conn. (AP) – Randy Walter and Travis Ishikawa hit solo home runs in the first inning to spur the Connecticut Defenders to a 3-1 win Tuesday over the Portland Sea Dogs in the Eastern League.

Walter hit his home run to lead off the inning, and Ishikawa followed with another one three batters later.

Chris Begg (6-9) broke a four-game losing streak in four consecutive starts with eight scoreless innings.

The righthander induced Portland (48-31) into 13 ground outs. He finished with no walks and five strikeouts.

Portland scored a run off Billy Sadler in the ninth on a RBI double by Jeremy West with no outs. After Sadler walked Chad Spann, he was removed for Joe Bateman.

The right-hander retired the side to get his seventh save of the season.

Devern Hansack (3-3) took the loss, but did retire 10 straight at one point. He allowed the three runs on four hits.

Connecticut (37-45) added a run in the second inning on an RBI triple by Clay Timpner.
