PARIS – Floyd A. Harlow Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9787 and Auxiliary met recently when the program recognized the winners of the Loyalty Day Poster contest and the fifth-grade essay contest on Patriotism.

Winners of the poster contest were Sheila Richardson, Kristen Lundstrom and Kristina Rogers, students at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Each winner received $25 and a certificate of recognition.

Winners of the essay contest were Colleen Stauder, Michael Carleton, Chelsea Dutil and Maggie Whittemore. The students attend Oxford Hills Middle School. They also received $25 and a certificate of recognition.

VFW Auxiliary President Eula Felker and First Vice President Donna Wing attended the VFW state convention on June 9 and 10 in Portland. They brought home the publicity award for the best news article on the Patriots Pen program and first place for the Buddy Poppy program.

Inadvertently missing from last month’s report on installation of new officers were the auxiliary trustees, Hazel Raymond, Frannie Perkins and Myrtle Cadenalli.

The post and auxiliary will meet Wednesday, Aug. 2. Following a potluck supper, the group will honor the surviving and past members of the 103rd Infantry. All military personnel and their spouses are invited to the supper and event.
