Program offered for grieving kids

WATERVILLE – The Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area will hold a program for grieving children, “Hope’s Place,” which serves youth ages 3 to 18 and their parents or caregivers, at 7 p.m. Thursdays for six weeks July 26 through Aug. 31 at the Hospice Community Center of Central Maine, 304 Main St.

Groups are co-facilitated by specially trained volunteers, and a licensed social worker serves as a consultant.

Families who have experienced the death of a loved one are encouraged to contact Sue McConnell, RN, youth services coordinator, for more information at 873-3615 or smcconnell@hvwa.org. A pre-group interview is required before sessions begin.

Farm field day

UNITY – The annual Small Farm Field Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association Common Ground Education Center.

The day will feature a variety of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on workshops designed for anyone curious about the tools and techniques of farming and homesteading in Maine.

Library services

AUGUSTA – The Maine State Library Outreach Services can help people with large print, talking books recordings or homebound books by mail. For more information, call 1-800-762-7106. The services, free to eligible Maine residents, are made possible through federal funds, the National Library Service and the state.

Volunteer training

WATERVILLE – Hospice volunteer training will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 20 through Nov. 15.

Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area exists to provide non-medical support to individuals and their families during the last phases of life and to loved ones throughout the grieving process. It is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization dependent on volunteers.
