Benefit supper
BUCKFIELD – A benefit supper for Bill Huff will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Masonic Hall. The menu will include baked beans, casseroles, rolls, beverage and dessert. PARIS – Christian Women United will meet at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday, July 18. Flu forum
PARIS – A Pandemic Influenza Community Forum, hosted by Oxford County Emergency Management Agency, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the South Paris Fire Station, 137 Western Ave. There will be a panel of local and state experts to answer questions; in addition there will be many handouts and brochures that focus on flu preparedness. Talk on lake
NORWAY – The Norway Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, when “Generations on the Lake” will be discussed by Joy Moll at the society house, 71 Main St.
Shepherd’s Camps were part of the history of many families who visited Norway Lake. Other resorts were described in the Advertiser newspaper of 1928. Many Norway residents have ancestors associated with other parts of the lake. Moll will talk about her book, “Ties to a Maine Lake,” which speaks to all who share the heritage of Lake Pennesseewassee.

Planning workshop

Schedule change
PARIS – The Paris Cape Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the museum, 77 High St. The previous schedule has changed. Guest speaker will be Leon Truman, who will discuss the history of the Norway/Paris Fish and Game Club. Refreshments will be served.
A few improvements have been made since the last meeting. The handicapped ramp has been stained, the front door was painted and shrubs were planted along the front of the building. The society will have a table at the Founders’ Day on Saturday, July 15, on Paris Hill.
Mom’s support
BRIDGTON – Bridgton Hospital will offer its Mom’s Milk Breastfeeding Support Group from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the Special Delivery Family Birthing Center at the hospital. Society speaker
WATERFORD – The Waterford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Wilkins House, Waterford Flat. Preservation educator Karen Wright will present a program on architecture called “What Style Is My House?”
The society is kicking off a collection of house histories that they hope will eventually lead to the histories of all the houses in town. Following the meeting there will be potluck desserts.
On Thursday, Aug. 17, a meeting will be held at the North Waterford Museum and will continue the topic of architectural style and history. The society plans an open house at all its buildings on Sunday, Aug. 19.
Book sale
PARIS – The Paris Public Library annual book sale will be held over three Saturdays, July 29 and Aug. 5, and a bag sale on Aug. 12. The sales will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the truck bays of the old Paris Fire Station, off Pine Street in South Paris.
On July 29 and Aug. 5, hardcover books will cost $1 each and trade paperbacks will sell for 50 cents each. Mass market paperbacks and children’s books will be 25 cents each or five for $1. A bag of books on Aug. 12 will cost $1. Thousands of books, all donations, with a wide variety of topics, authors and bindings will be available. Additional materials will be added each week.
Proceeds from the sales will help purchase new books for the children’s collection. Contributions for the sales are welcome. For more information, call the Paris Public Library at 743-6994 or e-mail [email protected].
