Joe Dignard and his son W. J. Dignard of Sabattus entertained a party of friends at a coon hunt one day recently with the result that four “cubs” and the mother coon were captured.
In the party were Dr. De Renardie, A. Peasant and A. Berube. Headed by “Joe the hunter” they visited Sabattus bog and with the aid of “Joe’s” five trained coon dogs located a nest of coons in an old dead tree. “Joe” climbed the tree and the coons began to get lively.
The “cubs” are about ten weeks old and each weighed about ten pounds. They will be tamed and later placed on exhibition.

Residents of the Hiram-Cornish area have reason to take pride in the success of their second agricultural fair at the new location in South Hiram. It officially opened the fair season in Maine!
The Ossipee Valley Fair goes back 135 years. Area farmers first chose Hiram, then later Cornish for the annual event. After 60 years in Cornish, the fair was suspended for 25 years. A new Association was formed in 1975-76 and the annual events were resumed last year, after some land was cleared at the new site.
