AUBURN – Road work should move downtown in about two weeks, as city crews prepare to button up work left by Northern Utilities.
Auburn crews are scheduled to begin installing new storm drains, building new sidewalks and replacing old asphalt pavement on High, Drummond and Vine streets beginning early in August, according to Assistant Public Works Director Sid Hazelton.
Crews from Northern Utilities have been replacing natural gas lines in that area for the last few weeks, and Hazelton said they have about two weeks worth of work left.
“We plan on moving in as soon as they move out,” he said.
It’s the first of six road projects the crew hopes to complete before the fall. Others include:
• Newbury and Laurel streets, which are due for work similar to that along High, Drummond and Vine.
• Danville Corner Road between the Maine Turnpike overpass and Woodbury Road.
• Black Cat Road from Old Danville Road to Washington Street.
• Arbania and Rochelle streets.
“It’s hard to say when we’ll be able to get started on that, but we’ll do it when we finish the High-Drummond-Vine area,” he said.
Crews also have short-term resurfacing projects planned for several streets, including Wrights Landing south of the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport and Weaver Street between Court Street and the dead end.
