WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) – State police have wrapped up their investigation of Sunday’s mill fire in Windsor Locks, town officials said Tuesday.

First Selectman Steven Wawruck Jr. said investigators told him they did find one point of origin. Results on what caused the blaze should be out in the next few days, Wawruck said.

The fire struck the old Montgomery Mills just weeks after the town made a zoning change to covert the complex to condominiums. Despite the massive blaze, those plans are still in the works because the buildings that were destroyed were slated to be torn down for parking lots, Wawruck said.

The developer met with town officials Monday and still expressed interest in going forward. The developer has proposed building 127 condo units at the site, which has been vacant for two years.

“We’ve been trying to keep (the site) secure over the last few months because that’s something we always feared was a mill fire,” Wawruck said. “We were very fortunate.”

Some 200 firefighters from 30 companies worked for hours to fight the blaze. There were no injuries.
