AUBURN – Mike Muise went the distance, gave up two runs on six hits with four strikeouts while walking just one to help New Auburn to an 11-2 victory over Andy Valley in American Legion baseball action Wednesday.

New Aubrun scored five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by RBI-singles from Brady Blackman and Adam Lutz.

David Lutz hit an RBI-double for Post 153, which will host Andy Valley again in the first round of the playoffs Friday.

Zack Keene belted a solo home run in the third for Andy Valley (3-17).

Smith-Tobey 7, Gayton 1

LEWISTON – Marshall Chick had three hits and threw two innings of relief to lead Smith-Tobey to a 7-1 victory over Gayton in American Legion baseball action Wednesday.

Chris Kates had a pair of singles and Brandon Wyman hit an RBI-double for Smith-Tobey.

Mike Fontaine doubled for Gayton, which managed only three hits on the game.

Zone III playoffs set

Smith-Tobey, with a 19-1 record, has earned a bye in this weekend’s Zone III tournament, and will also receive an automatic bid to the American Legion state tournament next week.

In first-round Zone III action Friday, New Auburn (14-6) will host Andy Valley (3-17) in a rematch of Wednesday-night’s season finale.

Gilman Electrical (12-8) will host Gayton (6-14), and Bessey Motors, which finished strong to climb back to 9-11, will host Gray (7-13), which swept Gilman Wednesday to edge Gayton for the No. 5 seed in the tournament.

Smith-Tobey, meanwhile, will face the winner of Bessey Motors/Gray on Saturday, while the winners of the other two games will also square off.

The championship game is slated for Sunday, and the eight-team state tournament begins late next week.
