BROWNFIELD – A 15-year-old was arrested after windows were broken overnight at the town office, the Brownfield Elementary School and at the Oxford County Sheriff Office’s substation on Main Street.

“We had five windows broken at the town office,” Town Administrator Julie Watkins said.

The three buildings are on Main Street.

The juvenile was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal mischief, burglary, theft and criminal mischief, according to a jail log.

Lt. Hart Daley said the teenager was charged with felony aggravated criminal mischief because any damage done to a law enforcement building is considered a felony. A computer inside the substation was also damaged, and a portable police radio and picture were taken.

Daley said a witness reported the crimes around 3 a.m. and identified the juvenile.

Sgt. Tim Ontengco responded to the call and found the juvenile near the vandalized buildings.

When Watkins arrived at the office in the morning, she said glass was everywhere.

Daley said the vandalism caused more than $2,000 in damage, which will be covered by insurance.

Watkins said the broken glass from the windows also broke the air conditioners in the town office, and they will have to be replaced.
