GREENE – Selectmen reminded residents Monday night of the fast approaching 5 percent discount deadline on their 2006 taxes.
The time to beat is 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in order to receive the town’s property tax discount.
Selectman Ron Grant said the decision to give early taxpayers a break has been done for the last few years. Residents annually vote on whether to do this.
By voting yes, the town receives permission to raise additional money to pay for the 5 percent discount.
Selectman Timothy Doyle said by awarding early taxpayers a 5 percent discount, it alleviates the need to borrow money to pay bills before taxes are due Sept. 27.
