Veterans ceremony
LEWISTON – A ceremony will be held to note the 1953 ending of the Korean War at noon Thursday, July 27, at the Veterans Memorial Park. The L and A Veterans Council will lead the program at which individuals will speak. All are welcome.
Tripp Lake walk
POLAND – A 5K Run/Fitness Walk by the Lake will take place Sunday, July 30, at Tripp Lake starting at 8:30 a.m.
It is being sponsored by the Tripp Lake Improvement Association and the Poland Recreation Department. Proceeds will benefit the association.
Registration will take place beginning at 7 a.m. outside Wolf Cove Bed and Breakfast, Jordan Shore Drive. Entry fee is $15.

VFW to meet
LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, VFW, will meet at noon Sunday, July 30, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend.
Seniors session
AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Hasty Community Center. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Members should bring a bag lunch and their cups. Tickets will be on sale for the annual picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 16, with the New Auburn Senior Citizens.
Joyce Poole announced that there are still a few spaces left to go on the trip to the Carousel Music Theatre supper club show. Contact her at 784-3429. Tickets are on sale for a three-day New Year’s trip Dec. 30 to Jan. 1 and the Nov. 6 trip to Lantana’s, Randolph, Mass.
On July 16 the club held a chicken barbecue prepared by several male members and the recreation staff. There were 83 present. Bingo was played after lunch. Attendance winners were Thelma Scanlon and Jeannette Gagne; pot of gold, Irene Fraser, Audrey Fleming and Senja Grover.
Screenings set
LISBON – Life Line Screening will be at the Lisbon Town Office, 300 Lisbon St., on Monday, Aug. 7. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m.
Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which can lead to a stroke; aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta; and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which are a predictor of heart disease. Also offered is a bone density screening to assess risk for osteoporosis.
Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular screening package is $109; the package and the osteoporosis screening is $129.

Summer services
RAYMOND – The East Raymond Chapel UCC, an historic summertime congregation on Route 85 across from the Raymond Town Hall, is open again for Sunday morning services.
The chapel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, holds services at 8:30 a.m. each Sunday during the summer only. Built in 1890, it has been a Raymond landmark for 116 years.
The Rev. Joyce A. Long, pastor, said the chapel has a small congregation that includes a number of year-round residents as well as visitors and summertime residents who return year after year.
She said everyone is welcome. Long is the year-round pastor of the Casco Village Church UCC.
