CAPE ELIZABETH (AP) – Pennie Cummings of Leeds won the the Women’s Maine State Golf Association championship for the sixth time on Thursday after shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the final round to lift her three-day total to 232.

Cummings, who plays out of Springbrook Golf Club, beat second-place Leslie Guenther by four strokes after trailing Guenther by four strokes going into the final round at the Purpoodock Club.

Guenther, of the Norway Country Club and the athletic director at Hebron Academy, finished at 236. Two strokes back in third place was Julie Treadwell of J.W. Parks in Pittsfield.

Whitney Hand, a 17-year-old high school senior from Bucksport, finished in fourth at 242. Three players, Megan Angis, Shirley Higby and Martha White, tied for fifth at 244.
