ELLSWORTH – Lewiston’s Elliot Little League 11-12 year-old baseball all-stars compiled a highly respectable 3-2 record at the recent Major Division State Tournament.
In round robin action, the District 5 champs opened with a 6-0 loss to Yarmouth, a game called after 4 innings due to rain. Harry Ridge walloped 2 homers. Tucker Beaudoin was the losing pitcher.
Lewiston evened its record a 1-1 with a 7-5 win over Bangor West, again another 4-inning rain-shortened game. Chris Madden was the winning hurler. Repeat hitters were Ben Chicoine and Shawn Ricker, the latter doubling in the winning runs.
Saco edged Elliot 4-3 in Game 3, rallying for 2 runs in the last of the sixth. Luke Cote swatted a home run in a losing effort. Conner Anthoine took the loss.
Corbin Hyde hurled a complete game, yielding 5 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 7, as Elliot trimmed Bucksport 9-4. Matt Bowen drilled 2 hits and knocked in 2 runs. Ben Wigant scored twice.
In its final game, Elliot turned back Waldoboro 10-4 as Anthoine scattered 3 hits and fanned 10. Chicoine and Madden both collected 3 hits. Nate Berube had a game-winning single, producing 2 runs.
Coaches for the District 5 champs, who received the tourney’s Sportsmanship Award, were Jeff Chicoine, Jim Hyde and Terry Ricker.
