GRAFTON TOWNSHIP – A Maine Army National Guard helicopter pulled a teenage hiker off Baldpate Mountain on Saturday morning, a day after an injury stranded him there.

Scott Ogden, 17, of Colchester, Conn., hurt his ankle Friday and could not walk off the mountain, according to Warden Brock Clukey. Emergency officials got a cell-phone call about the accident around 3 p.m, but a helicopter could not fly into the area because of heavy thunderstorms. Instead, two wardens and fire and rescue crews from Newry and Bethel hiked just over three miles up the rugged Appalachian Trail section to get to Ogden. They stayed with him overnight.

At midmorning Saturday, a guard unit helicopter landed on the west peak and pulled the hiker out. Ogden was taken to Rumford Hospital. A nursing supervisor there said he had been treated and released.
