Need host families

PORTLAND – The Japan American Society of Maine and the University of Southern Maine are welcoming students of the University of Southern Maine-Rissho University Summer Program.

The Rissho University – USM exchange Program is an outgrowth of the relationship between Portland and its sister city, Shinagawa, where Rissho University is located. Students come to Maine for an intensive, month-long program. During the week, the students spend time in the classroom and in structured activities in the Portland area designed to immerse them in English. On the weekends, local families host homestays where students can use their English in a non-academic setting.

Students are in Portland from Aug. 1 to 22 and there are still opportunities for families to host students on two weekends, Aug. 4 to 6 and Aug. 11 to 13. For more information, contact Homestay Coordinator Max Calderwood at work, 780-5345, home, 727-4207, or at maxc@usm.maine.edu.
