LIVERMORE FALLS – The Androscoggin County district attorney plans to meet with selectmen in executive session Monday to get the victims’ perspective of the $102,000 stolen from the town’s sewer department.

Former sewer clerk Faith Nichols pleaded not guilty to taking the money last month after waiving a grand jury hearing to establish probable cause for a felony charge of theft by unauthorized taking.

Nichols, 36, of Livermore Falls had previously admitted to police and selectmen that she took the money. Auditors doing an annual review of town accounts last year discovered the money missing over an 18-month period.

Nichols has said, through her attorney, Attorney Alan Stone, that she was sorry for her actions and vowed to repay the money. She had repaid $25,000 by June.

District Attorney Norman Croteau was reluctant to have the discussion on Nichols’ case in public session because of the ongoing criminal case, Town Manager Martin Puckett said Wednesday.

Instead, Puckett said he urged people to write to the district attorney to tell him how the theft has impacted them. To do that, people may send letters to Androscoggin County District Attorney Norman Croteau at 2 Turner St., Auburn, ME 04210-5978.

Puckett, who became town manager as the theft investigation was unfolding late last year, said he thought the case would have been resolved by now. But he has been told it could be six to nine months, he said, before the case goes on the trial docket unless a plea agreement is reached.

Croteau was unavailable for comment Wednesday.

The selectmen’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the town office. Puckett said he expects a lengthy agenda with a few executive sessions including one for his manager review and one on transfer station attendant Fred Nadeau’s grievance that was filed with selectmen.
