PERU – A tractor-trailer truck and a car collided Sunday night at the intersection of Main Street and Route 108.

Laura Worrick, 20, of Massachusetts, came to a stop at the blinking red light at the intersection. She proceeded through the crossroads as Rodolfo Flores, 39, of Texas, did the same, according to Deputy Justin Brown of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, who investigated the accident. By the time Flores saw Worrick, it was too late to stop, Brown said Sunday night.

There were no injuries.

Damage to the truck, driven by Flores and owned by J.B. Hunt Transport Services, was estimated at $8,000. The collision took off the front end of Worrick’s 2003 Jeep, causing approximately $7,000 in damage.

Brown said that contributing to the crash was the fact that neither driver was familiar with the area.

“That intersection is known to be a poor traffic stop,” Brown said. “There is not a lot of visibility and the blinking light fails to control the traffic flow.”
