LEWISTON – Harold “Sonny” C. Hartford Jr., 68, a resident of the Bernie Hartford Road in Leeds, passed away late Saturday evening, Aug. 5, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 31, 1938, in Lewiston, the son of Harold C. and Virginia E. Hartford Sr. He was a “1956” graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner.

Sonny served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s.

He liked to tinker on things and worked as an auto mechanic, truck driver and on the assembly line for General Motors in Framingham, Mass.

Sonny enjoyed time with his grandchildren, hunting and fishing, four-wheeling, riding mopeds, boating, visiting friends, eating candy and ice-cream, and riding the loop with his beloved dog, Pongo.

He is survived by two sons, Scott Hartford and his wife, April, of Jay, and Tony Hartford and his wife, Karen, of Cumberland; two daughters, Nichola “Nikki” Hartford-Hardy and her husband, Neal, of Bowdoinham, and Michele Hartford and her husband, Sean Scovil, of Bangor; 10 grandchildren, Zakkary, Nicholas and Jacob Morin, Benjamin, Alexander, Abbie and Emily Hartford, Jack and Tate Scovil, and Cole Hartford; a brother, Gerald Hartford and his wife, Valerie, and their children, Todd, Tammy, Troy, Toby and Travis, all of Leeds; and his sister, Helen Lehoux of Greene.

He was predeceased by his parents; and brother-in-law, Robert Lehoux.
