SABATTUS – In a Tuesday night workshop, selectmen announced that the preliminary tax rate for the coming fiscal year will hold fast at $25 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
“The official figure will be voted on at next week’s selectmen meeting,” Selectman Bill Henshaw said. “The bills will be sent out in the mail on Wednesday.”
In other news, the first public draft of the town charter was reviewed by a legal adviser and released Tuesday night.
Selectman Guy Desjardins said a lot of time and effort was put into this document, but there is still room to improve.
The charter was drafted by the charter commission with input from taxpayers’ surveys and meeting with the local attorney, selectmen and Maine Municipal Association.
For a copy of the town charter draft, residents may contact the town office during normal business hours.
