BELFAST – Thelma S. Maxwell, 91, formerly of Wilton, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at the TallPines Health Care Facility, Belfast, where she had resided for nearly eight years.
She was born July 15, 1915, in Farmington, the daughter of Ernest H. and Iva Theo (Lord) Swain. She grew up with her grandparents, John and Rachel Swain, on their farm in North Chesterville. She received her education in local schools and proudly earned her GED at the age of 65.
She married Maurice E. Maxwell on July 15, 1934, at Beans’ Corner. They were married by the late Rev. Henry Osgood. Mr. Maxwell died on March 27, 1987.
She was a housewife. During the war, she was employed at Remington Arms in Port Chester, N.Y., and later was employed at the Wilton Woolen Mill.
She enjoyed farming, horses, working in her flower gardens, collecting antiques and traveling. She loved cats and was especially fond of Ziggy, the nursing home housecat. Her greatest love was her family, including her extended family of nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one son, Donald B. Maxwell and his wife, Linda, of Waldo; two grandchildren, Mishelle D. Lawrence and Michael D. Rioux; two grandchildren, Theodore Lawrence and Jonathan Lawrence.
She was predeceased by two infants, Ernest Eugene and Gloria Faye.
