FALMOUTH – Jacqueline Poulin Cote, 81, former resident of 112 Lincoln Ave., Rumford, passed into the Lord’s hands on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Sedgewood Commons with loving family by her side.
She was born on July 16, 1925, in Rumford, the daughter of Lydia M. (Belanger) and Albert A. Poulin Sr. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford in 1943, where she participated in the State Championship debate team. She graduated from Burdett College in Boston in 1945.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Jackie will be remembered for her joie de vivre, her quick wit and her ability to recount interesting tales. She enjoyed singing, playing Scrabble, rockhounding and vacationing at the beach.
She took an active role in a number of community organizations including: Daughter’s of Isabella, Rumford Historical Society, Acadian Club, the Snowshoe Club, and senior citizen’s of both Rumford and Dixfield. She served as the first vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 24 of Rumford and was a member of the VFW Legion Auxiliary.
Music played an important role throughout Jackie’s life. She played saxophone for her high school band and clarinet in the orchestra. She was a member of St. Athanasius and St. John’s choir as well St. Theresa’s choir. She will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice.
She worked many years at New England Telephone and also worked for the city of Portand in accounting and served as a union representative. She volunteered at the Barron Center in Portland.
Jackie enjoyed writing poetry and participated in the Maine Writer’s Conference.
Survivors include two daughters, Michele, formerly of Lewiston, and Pamela, of Scarborough; and her grandson, Benjamin, of Washington, D.C.
She was predeceased by her parents; former husband, Gene; their son, James, who died in 1956; and a brother, Albert Poulin, M.D. and his wife, Arline (Snow) of Waterville.
