LEWISTON – Several programs designed to help adults prepare for college are being held this fall at Lewiston Adult Education.
The College Transition Program will help participants prepare for, enter and succeed in the college of their choice. Students will set goals and get the skills they need to succeed.
Topics to be covered include reading, computer skills, how to study effectively, time-management and test-taking strategies. The classes are centered around individualized and small-group instruction. There is no charge for the program to qualified adults, but an admissions interview is required
The College Transition Program will meet throughout the semester and students may choose one of three sessions: Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon; Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m.; or Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Classes will start Tuesday, Sept. 5, and spaces are limited. Contact Elayne Bean at 795-4141 to schedule an appointment for the required admissions interview.
Classes are also being offered to adults who want to review and refresh their skills, or who need to take a course as a prerequisite for college admission. Preparation for college math will start on Friday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon and will meet at Lewiston-Auburn College.
Preparation for college writing will start Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lewiston High School. In addition, algebra, pre-algebra, biology (with lab work) and chemistry (with lab work) will start the week of Sept. 5.
Preregistration is required for all classes and spaces are limited.
