AUBURN – Steve Labossiere whacked a triple to tie the game in the last of the 9th and Dan Coleman’s followed with a walk-off single as the White Sox edged the Topsham Knights 6-5 in an opening round playoff game Sunday in the Men’s Senior Baseball League.
Trailing 5-4 in the ninth, the White Sox got a base runner when Mark Plourde beat out an infield single. After fouling off 2 bunt attempts, Labossiere drilled his 3-bagger to score Plourde. Coleman followed with the game-winning hit.
The Knights were the only team to defeat the Pale Hose during the regular season.
The White Sox had to overcome an even bigger deficit earlier, 5-0, scoring 4 in the 8th. Jay Russell had an RBI single in that frame.
Jon Tarr, Derk Lamb, Paul Hansen and Corey Bridgham, were repeat hitters for the Knights. Rich Flaherty hurled the first 5 innings, allowing just 1 hit.
The Sox will host the winner of the West Paris Westies-Fairfield Rockies game next Sunday at the Auburn Suburban Little League complex.
