LISBON – The town’s fuel cost for the coming season is up 30 percent over what was budgeted in May, Town Manager Curtis Lunt said Wednesday.

Councilors awarded the contract for 26,000 gallons of No. 2 fuel oil and 45,000 gallons of diesel fuel to Downeast Energy on its low bid of $2.48 and $2.64 per gallon, respectively. The town had budgeted $2.15 and $2.03.

Councilors approved an amendment to the itinerant vendors ordinance that will allow larger equipment for vendors under certain circumstances pending a public hearing.

The panel met with architect Dan Moreno for an update of the proposed plans for a new 13,000-square-foot public works building. The new facility would replace a 6,000-square-foot building that was constructed in 1969, and has many problems with handicap accessibility, ventilation, space and code issues.

The new building would have eight doors and four bays, which would allow all equipment to be kept inside and adequate space for mounting equipment such as snowplows. The cost is projected to be $1.7 million and is expected to go before voters in November as a 20-year bond issue, Lunt said.

In a straw vote, councilors approved eight proposed amendments to clarify portions of the new town charter, which will also require voter approval.
