rumford – Mary Ann Prue has announced her candidacy for re-election as Oxford County treasurer.

Prue has held the post for the past 10 years, managing an overall county budget of $4.95 million, supervising the tax anticipation note process, and handling $1.8 million in investments on behalf of the county.

“I am running for re-election as Oxford County treasurer in order to continue to put my experience and commitment to work for the residents of Oxford County,” Prue said in a statement. “In my years of public service to Oxford County, I believe I have been a reliable asset and look forward to continuing to make sure county funds are handled in a professional and wise manner. The citizens of Oxford County deserve careful and attentive management of their tax dollars, and it is an honor and privilege to serve as Oxford County treasurer.”

During her tenure as treasurer, Prue supervised the implementation of in-house payroll services that saved Oxford County significant money, according to a statement issued by Prue.

She is overseeing the reorganization of the Treasurer’s Office including handling the records and accounts for civil process, including the addition of a part-time staff person to the four-person staff.

She is certified by the state as a Maine town clerk/treasurer and is a member of the Maine Town Clerk/Treasurer Association, the Maine County Treasurers Association, and has served on the executive committees for the Maine Town and Cities Association, the Maine Municipal Association’s Legislative Policy Committee, the Western Maine Transportation Board and as treasurer for the Rumford Democratic Town Committee for more than 20 years.

Prue has completed courses in cash management and cash handling through the Municipal Treasurers Association and courses on government accounting and investment of public funds.

She is the mother of three and grandmother of six, and resides in Rumford. She is a member of local organizations including the Red Hat Society.

She served Rumford for 24 years as town clerk and treasurer prior to retiring in 2003.
