LIVERMORE – Sean O’Shea of Livermore will have an extra $1,000 to pay for his senior year of college this fall.

The 20-year-old son of Anne and Dan O’Shea of Turkey Lane Road will use the Pollard Scholarship to finish his studies toward degrees in biology and premed, his mother said Tuesday night. He is returning to Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.

O’Shea’s name was selected from 16 eligible students who applied for the scholarship, committee members said during their deliberations Monday night.

The scholarship fund was set up by Augustus Pollard with instructions that the interest be used to help a Livermore student pay for higher education.

To be eligible, a student must have lived in Livermore for at least five years and provide a statement on why the money is being requested, and proof of completion of at least one year in a post-secondary school, college, or university. One student who applied was deemed ineligible because they had not completed a full-year of post-secondary education.

The review committee is made up of selectpersons, a member of the SAD 36 board, and a citizen at large.
