WISCASSET (AP) – A soldier who was killed in Afghanistan will be laid to rest with full military honors next week.
The funeral for Pfc. Andrew Small, 19, of Wiscasset, will be held Tuesday at at the community center in his hometown.
Small was killed when his convoy was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns in the wild northeastern province of Nuristan. Family members said he died while trying to help his squad leader, who’d been shot.
Three soldiers died in the incident, and several others were injured. The soldiers were members of the Third Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division.
The incident happened on Aug. 11. The family delayed arrangements until learning when his body would be returned to the United States.
