BAR HARBOR (AP) – The Jackson Laboratory unveiled its 50,000-square-foot research building on Friday.

The $26-million East Research Building is part of the institution’s five-year, $61.1 million expansion project that will add more than 125 year-round jobs.

Several research groups that study neurological diseases have already moved into the space.

“This is an investment that will pay off not only in new jobs an federal research grants coming to our state, but also in better health for Maine people,” said Director Rick Woychik.

Friday’s ceremony was attended by Gov. John Baldacci and members of the Maine congressional delegation.

The Jackson Laboratory is a world-leading biomedical research institution.
