Church give-away

DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Common Baptist Church will hold a Back to School Sunday on Aug. 27. As a part of a celebration of the end-of-summer break and the beginning of school, the church will distribute free school supplies to any child between the ages of 6 and 10 who attend the worship service with their parent(s) before that day and sign up.

To be entered in the program, the child must be signed up at a service on or before Aug. 27; the child’s parent or guardian must sign a form stating a hardship need; the child must be present on Back to School Sunday to receive the gifts.

At least one child’s name will be drawn to receive a backpack as well as supplies. If no students sign up, the supplies will be donated to the Dixfield Elementary School for classroom use.

Student screening

RUMFORD – SAD 43 will hold kindergarten screening from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the district’s central office.

If a child has not yet been screened for the school year, call Rumford Elementary School at 364-8155 or Meroby Elementary School at 364-3714 to make an appointment.

Legion event

RUMFORD – American Legion Post 24 will have a barbecue dinner and dance on Saturday, Sept. 1. Supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the dance at 7 at the Legion Hall, Congress Street.

Cost for the dance and meal is $10; meal only, $6; dance only, $4.

Advance tickets are available at the American Legion. There will be takeout available. Call in advance.
