Your story on the “hybrid” creature got my attention and, as soon as I saw the paw, I recognized the animal as a “fisher.”
I had an experience with one as a boy there in the Maine woods that I will never forget. The creature is as rare as it is viable and they are extremely amazing critters. They are as mean as a polecat, as fiery as a Tasmanian devil, as vile as can be and they have the most evil eyes, the most hair-raising howl, and they will make your hair stand on end.
That one experience was enough for me and, as my Dad always said, “You never know what you might encounter in the Maine woods.”
I am now 58 years old and remember that sighting of the Fisher above my head about 10 feet up on a tree limb. He was snarling worse than any dog. You all need to get some information about fishers before going out on a tangent with wolf-dog hybrids, or some other cockamamie idea.
Fishers are not known for being frequently encountered and they remain that way for a reason. Ask any Maine wildlife officer.
