SABATTUS -With the town charter currently under legal review, Charter Commission Chairperson Jon Mennealy said it is not too late for residents to act and comment on the current draft.
“If you have anything to say don’t wait for the last minute,” he said.
He expects the legal review process to be finished by the end of the week and thereafter a copy will be turned over to selectmen for review.
“Our next meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6:30,” Mennealy said. “We also want to hold a public hearing on Sept. 12 after the selectmen’s meeting. The town attorney will be present for that meeting.”
A town charter, once established and voted on by a voting body, is a legal document that details the inner workings of the town’s government and its administration.

In other news, April Smith went before selectmen Tuesday night to seek permission from the board to set up her stand at the Sabattus Antique Mall parking lot, 519 Sabattus Road.
With a health and fire inspection to soon follow, the board granted permission for the 2006 summer season.
Smith said she plans to be operating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. “It’s going to be based on our customers,” she said.
“It’s all just on a trial basis right now. We’ll see how we do at the end of September.”
